About Us

The Middle East Falcon Research Group (MEFRG) provides a forum for research biologists, veterinarians and falconers with an interest in falcon conservation and sustainable falconry in the Middle East region.  The activities of the MEFRG include undertaking survey, research and wildlife management studies on falcons within the Middle East region and beyond.

Health care and husbandry of falcons used in Arabic falconry is promoted by the MEFRG through collaboration between falconers and veterinarians.  Veterinarians develop medical and surgical techniques to improve survival of captive falconry birds and collaborate with field biologists to monitor the harvesting rates of wild-falcons using microchip markers.  The wider remit of the MEFRG covers the main quarry species of Arabic falconers and the captive breeding of both falcons and their quarry species.

The MEFRG facilitates individuals working in disparate fields and widely separated locations in establishing discussion and collaboration with others who share similar interests.  The MEFRG, through funding by the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, publishes a biannual Newsletter called FALCO.  Click here to find out more about our objectives.
